Responsibilities:
Blood Collection: Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to collect blood samples from
patients of varying ages and conditions, including infants, young children, and adults. Follow
proper protocols, techniques, and safety guidelines to ensure accurate and hygienic blood
collection.
Patient Interaction: Greet patients, explain the blood collection procedure, and provide
reassurance and comfort to alleviate anxiety and ensure a positive patient experience.
Address any questions or concerns from patients and their caregivers in a professional and
empathetic manner.
Pediatric Phlebotomy: Possess specialized skills and knowledge in drawing blood from
pediatric patients, including newborns, infants, and children.
Requirements:
- Educational qualifications such as a DMLT (Diploma in Medical Laboratory
Technology), MLT (Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology),
Diploma in Lab Technology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- Certification or licensure as a Phlebotomist is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Phlebotomist, with expertise in drawing blood from patients of
all ages, including babies, young children, and adults.
- In-depth knowledge of phlebotomy techniques, blood collection procedures, and
safety protocols.
- Familiarity with various blood collection systems, equipment, and specimen handling
procedures.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact with patients of diverse
backgrounds and ages.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills to accurately label and document
collected samples.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with healthcare
professionals.
- Knowledge of infection control practices and adherence to safety guidelines.
- Understanding of privacy and confidentiality regulations related to patient
information.
