The light of the word dawned for the first time upon the future Swami Vivekananda or Narendranath Dutta on Monday, January 12, 1863 (Makar Sankranti Day) in Calcutta. He had been born to usher in a new age of glory and grandeur for his country, who was to organize the spiritual and national consciousness of India. His message was, therefore, not transitory in nature, but carried permanently implications not for one country, but for whole humankind, not for one aspect of life, but for all aspect of human experience.
