ICU Technician Job Duties
ICU technicians have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
Providing comfort to patients by assisting with activities of daily living such as bathing, grooming, feeding, and dressing
Observing patient behavior to identify signs of changes in physical or psychological status that may require additional medical attention
Collecting data about patient’s current health status, including vital signs, intake and output of fluids, medication administration, lab results, etc.
Preparing patients for surgery by washing and disinfecting the surgical site, applying antiseptic solutions, and covering wounds with sterile drapes
Monitoring equipment such as electrocardiographs (EKGs), pulse oximeters, blood pressure monitors, respiratory rate monitors, temperature probes, and oxygen delivery devices.
Maintaining records of patient care activities such as administering medications, recording observations of patient behavior, and preparing reports on patient status
Preparing patients for transport to other facilities by performing tasks such as cleaning wounds and changing bandages
Performing diagnostic tests such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), urinalysis, cultures, and other procedures as ordered by a physician
