An HVAC estimator analyzes the scope of a proposed heating, ventilation, and air conditioning project to create a detailed estimate of the project's cost. As an HVAC estimator, you consider the cost of labor and materials and describe what is needed for your client's consideration.

HVAC estimators have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include

Preparing proposals for bids on new construction projects or retrofitting existing buildings to meet energy efficiency standards

Collecting information about the clients business needs and goals, including square footage requirements, desired temperature range, ventilation requirements, etc.

Calculating the cost of materials and labor required to complete the project, including taxes and fees

Creating an estimate of materials and labor costs based on the scope of the job, including any materials that need to be purchased and any equipment that needs to be rented or purchased

Preparing drawings of space layouts and equipment placement to illustrate the scope of work involved in a project

Preparing cost estimates for projects using hand calculations or computer software such as Excel spreadsheets or AutoCAD programs

Working with architects and designers to ensure that building plans meet code specifications regarding safety and energy efficiency

Communicating regularly with clients to provide updates on project progress and address any concerns or issues

Managing subcontractors to ensure that all work is completed according to specifications and within budget parameters
