Stewards play a crucial role in supporting wait staff and enhancing the overall dining experience for customers.
Responsibilities
Cleaning and Setting Tables: Stewards are tasked with cleaning tables after customers leave, setting them up for new guests, and placing seasonal decorations as needed.
Welcoming Customers: They greet customers upon arrival, assist with seating arrangements, serve water or beverages, and ensure menus are clean and presented properly.
Stocking Stations: Stewards stock serving stations with essential items such as napkins, utensils, trays, and condiments to support wait staff during service.
Dishwashing Duties: They scrape food from dirty dishes and wash them by hand or using dishwashing machines. This includes pots, pans, plates, flatware, and glasses.
General Cleaning Tasks: Responsibilities include sweeping, mopping floors, polishing equipment, cleaning lights and fans, and ensuring all areas of the restaurant are tidy.
Assisting with Linen Transport: Stewards transport used linen to laundry services or housekeeping sections as required.
Supporting Stock Management: They assist in unloading deliveries and storing stock appropriately.
Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
Must meet age requirements for serving alcoholic beverages where applicable.
Strong customer service skills along with a friendly demeanor are essential.
Physical stamina is necessary to handle long hours on foot in a fast-paced environment.
