Airport ground staff perform a variety of tasks to ensure the safety and effectiveness of air travel, including:

Passenger assistance

Greeting passengers, answering questions, giving directions, and helping with delayed or lost luggage

Ticketing

Selling tickets and making reservations

Baggage handling

Checking in baggage, loading and unloading luggage, and supporting disabled passengers

Aircraft preparation

Drawing and restocking aircraft, cleaning aircraft after flights, and stocking aircraft with refreshments

Other duties

Screening passengers and luggage, and helping passengers get on and off the plane

Ground staff often work in shifts to cover different times of the day and night, including early mornings, evenings, and overnight. They may work in both the government and private sectors.
