Job Purpose:
As a CAD Designer, the ideal candidate will involve creating and designing 2D and 3D models and prototypes for our STEM programs. This role will work closely with engineers and educators to transform concepts into accurate visual representations and will perform analysis and simulation of complex designs to verify performance and reliability, create detailed technical drawings and specifications, and maintain design records.
Role and Responsibilities
1. Collaborate with the project management team, engineers, and educators to understand program objectives and design requirements for STEM activities and projects.
2. Utilize CAD software (such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Fusion 360) to create 2D and 3D models, prototypes, and technical drawings that meet design specifications and industry standards.
3. Design and develop visually appealing and user-friendly models that enhance the learning experiences of students, incorporating principles of ergonomics, functionality, and safety.
4. Incorporate feedback from stakeholders to iterate and improve design concepts, ensuring they align with program objectives and user needs.
5. Collaborate with engineers and other team members to assess the feasibility of designs and incorporate necessary adjustments or modifications.
6. Create accurate and detailed technical drawings, including dimensions, annotations, and assembly instructions, to facilitate the manufacturing or construction of prototypes.
7. Conduct design reviews and participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to present and discuss design concepts, solicit feedback, and contribute to problem-solving and decision-making processes.
8. Stay updated on the latest CAD techniques, tools, and software advancements, and recommend improvements or alternative approaches to enhance design efficiency and quality.
9. Assist in the selection of materials, components, and manufacturing processes to ensure the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of designs.
