DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
-Performs skilled work in preparing metal and other surfaces on automotive equipment for painting and in applying lacquers, primers, synthetic enamels, polyurethane, and epoxy with spray guns and other auto painting equipment to automotive and construction equipment; and does related work.
-Fills small dents and scratches with body filler and cleans and prepares surfaces to ensure paint and other finishes will adhere properly.
-May prepare cost estimates of labor and materials for pending automotive paint jobs.
-Color blending into adjacent panels for a better color match to existing vehicle paint.
-Works with potentially hazardous materials so attention to safety and personal protection are essential.
-Mix and spray paint and primer per work instructions.
-Clean panels in preparation for painting and priming.
-Document the materials used in the process to maintain traceability.
-Management of the collection, disposal, and storage of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes.
-Maintain spray equipment.
-Select appropriate paint or mix paints using automated paint mixing equipment.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
-Proven experience with automotive painting (at least 2-4 years).
-Experienced with applying water and solvent borne paint systems.
-Experienced with applying effect coatings.
-An understanding of proper spraying techniques.
-An understanding of common defects, what causes paint failures and how to correct them.
-Ability to work within a schedule and adapt to sudden changes.
-Self-starter with the ability to properly manage time.
-Works independently with moderate supervision.
-Must be able to paint a diverse range of vehicles.
